Six voices wait behind every seal below. Tap one and an individual answers; tap again and another has its say. The animals are arranged by where they live, from the pond by the house to the northern shore; in every row the animal’s voice comes first and the sounds of it moving and being handled sit after a thin rule. The bar beneath narrows the cabinet to a habitat, a kind of animal, voices or movement, a synthesis engine, or a word. Every call is synthesised from models of throats, hooves, breath and syrinxes. No animal recordings are tucked behind the curtain.
